Spirit Airlines Baggage Policy: Carry-On Allowance, Checked Baggage, Overweight Bags
Spirit Airlines offers flights throughout the United States as well as flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America.
Spirit Airlines Carry-On
In order to keep their ticket prices low, Spirit Airlines charges passengers for carry-on and checked bags. Ticket holders are included with one personal item that fits entirely within the smaller size box, such as a purse, small backpack, etc. Anything larger will require payment, including a checked bag or standard carry-on bag.
If you fly Spirit, you may bring one
personal item on board. This can be a purse, backpack, laptop, etc. The item
must not exceed 18 inches by 14 inches by 8 inches or 45 centimeters by 35
centimeters by 20 centimeters.
Spirit Airlines Checked Baggage
If you wish to bring a suitcase or item larger than carry-on size, that does not exceed 40 pounds and 62 linear inches, you will need to pay again the amount varies depending on your exact flight.
As a result, if you bring two
suitcases, you can only check one and you will have to find alternative
transportation for your second case. Bringing golf clubs along with your
suitcase is not a good idea either.
Spirit Airlines Excess Baggage Policy
In essence, Spirit Airlines does not allow excess baggage. Each passenger can only check one piece of luggage.
There are excess baggage fees applicable to suitcases and other items that weigh 41 to 100 pounds and are no larger than 80 linear inches. Anything larger needs to be shipped by alternative means.
Spirit Airlines Overweight Baggage Fees
Any bag weighing more than 40 pounds is
considered overweight baggage. On Spirit, you will have to pay an additional
$75 fee for overweight baggage in addition to standard, excess and oversized
baggage fees. Baggage weighing 51-99 pounds is $75, while luggage that weighs
100 pounds or more is not permitted.
Spirit Airlines Oversized Baggage Fees
If your bag measures more than 62 inches in length, width, or height, you'll be charged an oversized baggage fee. Oversized baggage fees are added to any standard, excess, or overweight fees.
Sports Equipment
On Spirit flights, items must not
exceed 50 pounds in weight, even if they exceed the 80-linear-inch size
standard.
A bicycle costs $75 and a surfboard costs $100 in accordance with the oversized and overweight fees listed above.
How To avoid Spirit Airlines change fees?
When you book a flight at least seven days in advance, Spirit does not charge a fee if it is changed or canceled within 24 hours of the initial purchase.
A change is allowed only once, and it
must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled flight. Plus, you'll still
be responsible for any fare difference.
